Women can improve their sex lives by practicing mindfulness meditation, suggests new research. What’s the connection? The mental training may help calm thoughts, reduce distraction, and improve focus, allowing a woman to concentrate on sexual stimuli.
Results were published in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine; A story on myhealthnewsdaily quoted the study author marveling at how much meditation could do for one’s personal health, including increasing self-compassion, decreasing anxiety and improving attention.
Previous research has shown that a regular yoga practice enhanced women’s sexual lives. After completing a 12-week yoga program, women reported improvements in sexual function, including desire, arousal and orgasm.
The Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at UMass Medical School offers a web tool to help you find a mindfulness training program near you.
